NYPD investigating shooting threats made to 2 Brooklyn high schools

NEW YORK — Two Brooklyn high schools received threats about someone coming to shoot students — and cops are trying to determine if the same caller made both unfounded threats, police said Tuesday.
The menacing phone calls were made within minutes of each other, beginning at 8:15 a.m. Monday at Cristo Ray Brooklyn High School, a Catholic high school on E. 37th St. in East Flatbush, and at Brooklyn Prospect High School, a charter school at 3rd St. and Fort Hamilton Parkway in Kensington.
In each case, someone called, claiming, “Someone will be there in five minutes to shoot up the school,” a police source with knowledge of the case said.
During at least one of the threats, the caller used a vocal distortion device to conceal their voice, police said.
Administrators at the Cristo Ray School said it was the first time they’d ever received a threat of this type. An email to the Brooklyn Diocese, which oversees the school, was not immediately returned. A call to Brooklyn Prospect High School was also not returned.
Cops were alerted and came to both schools, but it wasn’t immediately clear if either building was evacuated.
No injuries were reported. Both threats were declared unfounded.
Cops are investigating each threat and are trying to determine if they were made by the same person, sources said.
