Grammy-nominated rapper Mystikal has been jailed for 20 years for raping a woman at his Louisiana home.

The 55-year-old star - whose real name is Michael Tyler - was arrested in July 2022 on six charges including first-degree rape, false imprisonment, and strangulation but in March this year, he pleaded guilty to lesser charges of third-degree rape and now he has been sentenced.

The unnamed victim appeared before the court on Tuesday (16.06.26) and told of how the rapper had "choked her, pulled braids out of her hair and forcibly raped her."

After she spoke, the Shake Ya Ass hitmaker said: "If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence."

According to WBRZ, his sentencing came just days after he filed a motion to withdraw his plea because he "did not have sufficient opportunity to fully consider the consequences" before admitting he was guilty of the crime.

The motion argued he was "under significant emotional distress and felt substantial pressure to make an immediate decision."

If he had been convicted of all the initial charges - first-degree rape, simple criminal damage to property, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, simple robbery, and false imprisonment in the assault - he would have faced a life sentence.

The Danger (Been So Long) hitmaker had been accused of beating, choking and robbing the woman, who alleged he took her keys and phone and raped her while she searched for money he had taken. She claimed he eventually allowed her to leave after forcing her to send him money via CashApp.

Mystikal previously spent 18 months in the Caddo Correctional Center from 2017 to 2019 for first degree rape and second-degree kidnapping, which were dismissed due to lack of evidence in 2020.

The former US army combat engineer also served 81 days in East Baton Rouge Parish Jail in 2012 on a misdemeanour charge of domestic abuse battery.

And Mystikal did six years at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center for sexual battery and extortion against his hair stylist as well as two misdemeanour counts of failing to file tax returns for 1998-'99.
