Marilyn Monroe’s legendary career is on display in Los Angeles

Recognize this dress? It’s the pink strapless William Travilla gown worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1953 musical “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” accessorized by matching pink full-length gloves, and you can’t imagine anyone else wearing it. (It’s the gown in which she sings “ Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”)
Monroe, who would have just turned 100, is the subject of a recently opened tribute exhibition, “ Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon,” at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The exhibit includes an array of costumes worn during Monroe’s brief but legendary career, as well as photos, letters, personal items and other artifacts.
“Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon” will be on display through Feb. 28, 2027.
