NEW YORK — Facing the Braves for the first time this season, Bo Bichette had a huge night, driving in six runs and homering twice in the Mets' 7-5 victory.

The third baseman/shortstop has been inconsistent at the plate this season, but he looked like the hitter baseball has come to know. Bichette and Juan Soto hit back-to-back homers in the first inning off right-hander Spencer Strider, then Bichette hit a grand slam with two outs in the second inning.

The Mets (31-38) handed Strider (4-2) only his second loss of the season, knocking him out after three innings. Strider gave up seven earned runs on six hits, walking one and striking out three.

Right-hander Nolan McLean made it through only four innings. He gave up two earned runs and three hits to Atlanta (45-24), but he walked four and struck out six. The bullpen, one of few bright spots for the Mets this season, was crucial in the win.

Four relievers combined to go five more innings, with the Braves attempting to chip away at the lead. They nearly came back in the eighth when they took two runs off left-hander Brooks Raley to cut the lead to two, but closer Devin Williams converted a four-out save (10).
