Giants turning to rookie QB Jaxson Dart vs. Chargers, benching Russell Wilson
Published in Football
NEW YORK — The Giants are planning to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll are benching veteran Russell Wilson after an 0-3 start to the season in which the Giants scored fewer than 10 points in two of their three defeats.
Dart, a Giants first round pick in April, was used briefly in Weeks 2 and 3 as more of a specialist, handing the ball off and bringing a running threat to throw off defenses.
But now he’s getting the nod for good.
Schoen and Daboll benched and released Daniel Jones last season and believed that Wilson would be a dramatic upgrade at the quarterback position for their offense.
But that plan fell flat on its face immediately.
