Barry Christian, a President Donald Trump-supporting state Senate candidate in Oklahoma, was found dead in his truck two days after he seemingly disappeared, authorities said.
Christian, one of three Republicans vying for a seat in District 38, was last seen alive on Tuesday in the city of Sayre, located some 20 miles east of the Texas border, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a release shared to social media. He was reported missing the following day, after he didn’t show up to a meeting, according to News 9.
Authorities found his truck in the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area on Thursday around 9:45 a.m. with a body inside. It has since been “positively identified as Christian,” OSBI said, and his remains were taken to Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which will determine his cause and manner of death.
Few other details about the case were provided.
Christian’s daughter, Brooklyn, said her family’s “world is upside down right now” before requesting prayers from the community.
“We are still not sure of everything that happened, so please act with grace and treat my dad’s legacy with dignity,” she told New 9, adding, “I know there will be lots of people devastated by his passing.”
According to his campaign website, Christian, a drilling consultant, vowed to “proudly stand with President Trump” and “fight for the traditional conservative values that make America great” if elected to the state Senate.
An investigation into his disappearance and death are ongoing.
